These are the production years for every STIHL chainsaw.
Whether it’s for interest’s sake or something more technical, a lot of people want to know what period their chainsaw was made. So we have put together this definitive list of when each STIHL chainsaw was made from 1926 to the present day.
STIHL gas chainsaws
The very first STIHL chainsaw, the STG1, was patented by Andreas Stihl in 1926—it was also the first electric chainsaw.
The second STIHL chainsaw was gas. This was the Type A which was produced from 1929 to 1932.

Didn’t see the 032AV on your list.
The 032 is there, are they the same saw?
Hi Scott, as far as I’m aware the 032 was only made in the AV format.
Had a Stihl dealership in Lincolnton, NC tell me that Stihl never made an 021 chainsaw. This was two gentleman in their service department. I told them they didn’t know about there own products and should study the history of Stihl chainsaws. I own one and know better.
You should take it in and show them.
This is true I owned one . So they did make a 021
Hi how much Stihl 070 petrol and 090 please
I’m looking for fuel tank and carburetor parts for a 1969 saw. Where can vintage saw parts be found? It was dropped, and before that, it was the best chainsaw I ever used. It’s big, heavy, and sounds like a big dirt bike. I don’t have the make at this time, just looking where and how to get parts for the old beast.
Tom, eBay is going to be your best bet for saw parts. Also, if you’re on Facebook, you might have some luck on their “marketplace” or better yet, joining a group page dedicated to buying and selling Stihl parts.
Best of luck,
Reggie
Did Stihl ever make a MS391 pro? with a decompression button? Or just the farm and ranch MS391? Ive never heard of a MS391pro but a guy has one for sale and is telling me its a pro because of the decompression button. Is this true or is he full of s***?
Yes, some have decompression buttons and some don’t. I’m not sure if it was actually designated PRO with a sticker, but this does happen with some of the saws.
Didn’t see MS380 on the list, do you have the years for that model
I’d be keen to find out too!
I can’t find the exact dates but it’s something like 1999 – 2007 in most countries. I was likely sold later than this in some countries. You can get a little more info in the Stihl MS380 review here.
Did not see the 041AV Super. Does anyone know the years in production?
Stihl 041AVS | 1977 – 1983
The S in AVS is the AV Super
I’m trying to find a 041 super cylinder anyone know where to find one?
Did not see the 034 SUPER.
Can anyone help me with specs for an 016C can’t find any information about it.
A friend found an electric Stihl model 606 in his yard. Anybody have info on this? Would be appreciated.
Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the Stihl 011 AVEQ, 011 AVT and the 011 AVET?
Hey Steve, as I’m sure you’re aware, the AV part means it has the anti-vibration system. E is Electronic, Q is Quickstop, T is the top handle version of the saw.
Thanks Dan. I just read your email. I acquired my 011 AVT a few years ago after a friend of mine’s mother passed away and my wife was helping her clean out her house. She and her husband had no use for a chain saw so during the clean out she asked me if I wanted it (among other things). I already had a chain saw but it was running very poorly, if at all. The 011 AVT was not running at all after many years (decades) of non-use. I took it home and stared working on it. I found dry and broken fuel lines among other problems. The chain oiler also needed work. I finally got it fixed and found this little saw was a great little saw. It starts and runs very well every time I use it for pruning, small tree removal and cutting cord wood for my fireplace. I believe it will outlive me. Thanks for the info about the “AVT”.
I found an020AV super in the local give and take. I put a new bar and chain on it, and rebuilt the A bushings, nice saw!
I’ve got an early 038 that’s my prize possession. Barely any hours on her either.
Still can’t find any information on the MS 365. It has a decompression valve so must be on the top end. I really need to know which other model’s parts will fit. Any info?
Do you mean Husqvarna 365? Pretty sure there is not a STIHL MS 365.
