The STIHL 076 is a fantastic 111 cc vintage chainsaw model produced from 1980 to 1986.
It followed on from the STIHL 075 which has a lot in common with it. The two saws are often confused with each other, but there are key differences which we share in our 075 article.
The beautifully restored STIHL 075 we’re sharing here was listed on eBay by Alex (seller szabsa76) and sold in March 2025 for US $1,190.00. Check out his other listings for more stunning saws.
STIHL 076
This saw was listed with this description (translated from Hungarian):
Completely restored vintage Stihl 076 AV German muscle chain saw for sale
For sale: beautifully restored vintage Stihl 076 AV chainsaw as seen in the pictures.
A TRUE BEAST! 111 cc, 7 HP!!!New Stihl gaskets, new Stihl 3/8 chain, new diaphragms, new air filter, new clutch drum, new clutch springs.
I’ve also replaced all six anti-vibration rubbers.Starts well in both cold and warm conditions. Very solid build, excellent compression. The oiling system also works perfectly.
As it has no chain brake, I recommend it only for experienced users!

Here’s a video of the saw running (on YouTube).
There are at least three different versions of the 076.
- STIHL 076 AV E
- STIHL 076 AV EQ (as pictured here)
- STIHL 076 AV Super EQ
Super usually means a more powerful chainsaw, but ArboristSite member alexcagle explains that’s not the case with the 076:
The only thing that makes a Super different from the regular 076 is:
- An additional intake block that raises the height of the air cleaner about another inch
- A Walbro WJ-112A carb
- Longer carb studs to make up for the addition block height
- And the badge of course
STIHL 076 reviews
Here are some reviews and comments on the 076 from the STIHL Chainsaw Fans FB group.
Josh said:
I have the same saw, it’s the pride of the collection.
I rarely break it out as I have other saw that are better suited for most jobs.
I got it for cheap from a guy that was afraid of it and it’s just a cool old saw.

They do quite well bucking with a 48”, running skip or full skip. I don’t see why it would not pull a 60 just fine. 72” would be pushing it.
You’ve got a manual oiler override, but I’d still add a tip oiler so it will have more for the bottom of the bar.
If you can find the intake block for a 076 Super, add that, gives it a little more power. It’s noticeable. Otherwise, run it a bit rich, they have amazing torque.
Shorter reviews:
- Jaime said, “I use my 075 av for slabing.”
- Wolfsen said, “Put her on a shelf and get a 881”
- Jay said, “It will run a 72″. They’re torque monsters, so just take your time, don’t expect a fast job.”
- Brian said, “076 is an awesome saw, a true torque monster.”
- TJ said, “The 076 is a good saw. Torque monster. About 3 pounds heavier than my MS 660 as I recall.”
Andrew said:
The 075/076 are great saws for milling. I had one for years. 111cc saw.
Be sure to check fasteners as they have a tendency to vibrate out.

I have one. Great saw. Torque monster. Won’t rev high but has tons of torque.
Great for milling to cutting big logs one down. Not so much for felling trees.
