Can the Cubic Mini Wood Stove be used for boats?

YES!

In fact, that’s exactly what the inventor of the Cubic Mini initially created them for… his sailboat! Here are some examples of the Cubic Mini GRIZZLY and CUB being used on boats around the world.

Carly, Dom, and Hank the dog use the Cubic Mini Grizzly on their sailboat.

Follow their Instagram account, this_off_grid_boat_life,  for many great shots of their tiny wood stove in action.

I love the positioning right beside the bed, which no doubt keeps them warm and cozy through the night. They have some good heat shields installed around the stove which reduces the required clearances by a lot.

They use their wood stove for both heating and cooking.

And they have a good wood stove fan on top to help push the heat and circulate air through the boat.

They have also bought some of the Cubic Mini Wood Stove accessories, as shared in this next video.

These Cubic Mini accessories are the CB-7300 Water Heater Dispenser and the CB-7200 Mini Roaster, fantastic additions that I’m sure take their off-grid goals to the next level.

This trio also have a YouTube Channel, Sailing Cadoha, sharing their sailing adventure around the United Kingdom.

Relating to the Cubic Mini, they have this video on unboxing the stove and having the first burn-off fire (an important Cubic Mini tip before installation).

Then there is this video on how to install the Cubic Mini Wood Stove on a boat.

And lastly, their video review of the Grizzly.

All of these videos are worth checking out if you’re thinking about using one of these small wood burners aboard your ship!

I love the before and after install pics.

It’s a fantastic transformation!

They shared:

…before we crossed the North Atlantic Ocean, we found the tiniest and cutest wood stove from @cubicminiwoodstoves that would fit perfectly. And designed the ideal corner for it using slate and ceramic tiles.

Make sure you check out their YouTube channel linked above for reviews and sailboat installation tips.

This is the Cubic CUB being prepared for a boat.

And this last example is the Cubic Mini CUB aboard the Dawn Treader, a 1966 Allied Seawind Sloop.

The Grizzly and Cub are both good for boats, depending on the space you are trying to heat.

The Cub does from 100 – 200 square feet, while the Grizzly is good for 200 – 400 square feet. The Grizzly is almost always the way to go because it’s OK to use through winter, whereas the Cub is really only for Spring and Autumn.

Make sure you get your Cubic Mini on sale if at all possible, as the total cost of stove pipes, heat shields, and accessories does start to add up.

Often your choice will ultimately come down to what’s most accessible to you. Cubic Mini Stoves are available in the UK, Australia, and Europe, but shipping may end up costing more than it’s worth.
