What is the best 4-inch stove pipe for wood stoves or pellet stoves?
It depends on what you need it for!
Are you installing a wood stove into an RV, tiny house, or cabin? Or are you putting in a small wood pellet stove into a standard house?
We’ve got great options for all of these different installations.

Small stove pipes like these 4″ stovepipes are also sometimes used in regular-sized wood stoves.
My wood-burning stove (which you can see in this glass cleaning article) actually only has a small 4-inch flue pipe as well, despite it being a full-sized wood burner.
However, most of the time you find these slim stove pipes being used for wood stoves in small spaces.
Either way, here’s what you need to know about these 4″ stove pipes!
1. Tiny Wood Stove Single Wall 4″ Piping
- Stainless steel or black
- 20 or 20″ lengths
- Single wall
This option is designed for use with the Dwarf Tiny Wood Stove but can be used with other mini wood stoves as well.
One of the great things about buying from Tiny Wood Stove is that they sell basically everything you need to install your 4-inch wood stove piping.
That includes:
- Complete kits if needed
- Exit kits (for RVs, buses, shingles, etc.)
- Pipe adapters, elbows, and clamps
- Brackets and collars
- Stove pipe screws
They even have exit kits for yurts or 4″ to 3″ stove pipe reducers.
What’s more is that, unlike at Amazon or Walmart, you can get some really great specialized advice to help you understand what’s going to be best for your installation.
A bit more info about the piping itself:
- Can come in stainless steel finish or black high-temp paint
- Requires 18″ clearance unless using heat shields
- Made of welded carbon steel
- 20″ or 40″ lengths
- Secure with clamp or screws
- Needs a 4″ flue outlet
It is a single wall stove pipe (rather than a double wall) which means it needs further clearance from walls, but it’s cheaper and will radiate more heat out into your room.
You can see what this four-inch stove pipe looks like when installed in this video.
It’s a fairly standard finish (matte black) that fits in with most home decor.
The Dwarf mini wood stove is a great little burner as well (maybe even the best?). You can compare the Dwarf and the Cubic Mini Wood Stoves to find out why this model stands out.
It’s a more durable and robust unit that works well in a range of different living situations.
2. Imperial Manufacturing 4″ Stove Pipe
- Black 4″ piping
- 24″ lengths
- Single wall
These 4 x 24″ lengths of stovepipe are suitable for venting wood-burning stoves
It’s made of 24-gauge steel that has been finished in matte black scratch and chip-resistant paint.
As with the single wall piping above, this also needs to be situated 18″ from walls, but can be brought down to as little as 6″ with appropriate heat shielding.
It can be used with completely new heating systems or as a replacement for old 4″ piping.
The product is made in the USA by England’s Stove Works, Inc.
3. DuraVent 4″ Vent Unit Heater Kit
- Stainless steel finish
- Wood, pellet, biofuel & oil fuels
- 24″ pipe lengths
Lastly, the DuraVent 4″ stove pipe kits are made for use with pellet and multi-fuel (biofuel, corn, oil) stoves.
The individual parts can be bought separately or as a whole set as in the image above.
The set comes with:
- 1 x Appliance adapter
- 1 x 3 in – 4in appliance adapter/increaser
- 3 x 12 in pipe length
- 2 x 24 in pipe lengths
- 2 x 45° elbows
- 1 x Horizontal round cap
- 1 x Wall thimble
So it depends on where and how you’re installing it, but this could be basically all you need to hook up your pellet stove if it was not sold as a complete install kit.
The joins on these items have been laser welded and are made in the USA.
Best 4″ Stove Pipe
We like the 4″ wood stove piping from TinyWoodStove.com for that type of application.
They have everything you need from the piping and brackets to the exit kits and chimney caps, making it easier to make sure you’re not going to end up short on anything.
They also have a great calculator to help you determine how much of everything you need.
It asks questions like:
- What stove do you have? A dwarf or something else?
- What kind of structure do you have? Tiny house, cabin, van, boat, or yurt?
- Do you want to exit through the roof or the wall?
- Is it top exit or rear?
And then it follows by asking the dimensions of your structure:
- Distance from top of the stove to ceiling
- Distance between bottom of ceiling and top of the roof
- The vertical distance from roofline to the highest part of the structure within 10 feet of the chimney
All three of those questions will help determine how much stove piping you need, along with all the other bits and pieces.
Whether you are looking at installing a mini wood stove in a tiny house or a wood burner in a shed, or you want an RV wood burning stove, one of these 4-inch stove pipe kits is sure to solve your problem.

Hello! Hope all is happy and well…all I need is a 4″ single wall wood stove pipe and a 4″ elbow. Do you sell pipe etc. not in a kit. I’ve had my stove for many years, and I just need to replace some of my pipe and an 4″ elbow. Since I moved it to another location. Is that possible? And what would be the grand total? C.G.
