Capybara Stoves is a relatively new US-based mini wood stove company. It offers two different models: the Capybara Stove Mini and Capybara Stove XL.
These wood stoves are designed especially for compact spaces like tiny homes, RVs, boats, cabins, and similar settings.
Overall, Capybara Wood Stoves are very well reviewed (and often sold out online), but people have a few complaints which we’ll share below.
Capybara wood stoves are for sale on eBay.

- High-grade steel construction
- Painted with high-quality wood stove paint
- Long-lasting door seal with high-quality hardware
The XL Stove is “the same as the Mini Capybara but scaled up to a larger size.”
Capybara Vs Cubic Mini
The brand is competing on price with better-known companies like Cubic Mini Wood Stoves and Dwarf Tiny Wood Stoves.
The comparison above is between the Capybara and Cubic Mini Grizzly. The Grizzly costs almost $1000 so it’s a big difference between $299 for the mini Capybara when both stoves offer similar features and build quality.
Compared to the Grizzly, the Capybara is larger, appears to be more solid, and has a larger top for cooking. The Grizzly has a rail surround which can be removed, as we shared in our Cubic Mini tips round-up.
Cubic Mini Stoves are made in Canada which may account for the higher price. While the Capybara Stove company is based in Nevada, USA, it’s unlikely the stoves are produced there (though confirmation of this isn’t stated on their website).
Capybara Pros And Cons
Pros:
- High Efficiency and Performance: Customers like Tyler E. from Montana have experienced excellent results with the stove’s ability to heat spaces efficiently, maintaining comfortable temperatures even in larger areas like a 32’ bus.
- Effective Design: The design of the secondary burn chamber is praised for its efficiency and ability to support a long, slow burn, as noted by Tyler E.
- Quality Engineering and Manufacturing: Joe S. from Washington commended the stove for its well-engineered and manufactured design.
- Aesthetic Appeal and Craftsmanship: Several customers, including Jennifer from Illinois, highlighted the stove’s craftsmanship and aesthetic appeal, making it a perfect addition to tiny homes.
- Easy Installation and Operation: The ease of installation and use has been a plus point, as indicated by several customers.
- Customer Satisfaction and Service: Great customer service and regular updates on progress have been noted by customers like Jennifer.
- Compact and Perfect for RVs: Ken from Washington and John R. from Oregon found the stove perfect for RV use, with its compact size and larger firebox.
- Value for Money: The stove is considered a great purchase for its price, as mentioned by multiple customers.
Cons:
- Lack of Included Piping: One customer noted that the stove doesn’t come with any pipes, and finding suitable sizes at a reasonable price can be challenging and expensive.
- Potential Shipping Costs for Pipes: The cost of acquiring the necessary 4” pipes separately can be quite high, almost $1000 as per one customer’s experience.
Unlike other mini wood-burning stove brands, Capybara doesn’t seem to sell piping, exit kits, and other parts for a complete working install. This means you need to try and source appropriate pieces yourself.
Some users find this complicated. However, it’s likely Capybara Stove Company can make recommendations and offer guidance for what works best with their stoves.
