The Snow Joe Ash Vacuum is a powerful vacuum for ashes – surprise surprise!
It’s one of the top-selling models, and certainly one of the best ash vacuums available.
It comes in either a 4-amp model (ASHJ201) or a 5-amp model (ASHJ202E), but other than the difference in power levels, they’re the same machine.
Here’s what you need to know about it before grabbing one!

Ash vacuums are excellent devices for quickly cleaning the ash out of fireplaces, wood burning stoves, pellet stoves, log burners, fire pits, BBQs, charcoal grills, and other types of cookers.
If you have a large volume of ash in your burner, it is best to clear out the bulk of it using a shovel and ash bucket, and then the shop vac can be used for getting all the remains.
Vacuums like this can get into all those hard-to-reach spots in and around the fireplace, and give you a cleaner finish than you could otherwise get.
Snow Joe Shop Vac Specs
As has already been outlined, you can get either the 4 or 5-amp version of this ash vac.
There isn’t a huge amount of difference between them, and most people find that the 4-amp version is more than powerful enough for your average home fireplace or wood stove clean-up.
Other ASHJ201 and ASHJ202E specs:
- 4.8-gallon metal tank storage
- Long 4-foot hose with an 11.8-inch nozzle
- Long 8.5-foot power cord
- Single on/off switch
- 42.4 cubic feet per minute airflow
- Weighs 8.8 lbs
One big difference between this vacuum and an ordinary vacuum (or even compared to most other shop vacs) is that it doesn’t have wheels and cannot be pulled along the ground.
It has a flat bottom that is made to sit in a single location, and then be shifted by lifting with a handle.
The lack of wheels could be annoying to some users, but it has its benefits as well. It means you can rest it up on higher locations without it trying to roll away on you!
However, there are several good ash vacuums with wheels if you’d prefer that.
Snow Joe Ash Vacuum Review
The Snow Joe Ash Vacuum is worth picking up for light home use.
If you’re going to be using an ash vacuum regularly, it would probably be better to get a more powerful brand like the PowerSmith Ash Vacuum.
Even though it’s designed only for picking up cold ashes, it is all metal which means it will be more durable and protected against any heat than a plastic alternative.
Even the hose is metal which is great.
The unit is not super heavy and can be shifted around the home with ease, and it’s simple to up and empty. Make sure you use your ashes on something productive!
Pros:
- Moderately powerful motor
- Lots of metal parts
- Simple operation
- Multi-purpose
Cons:
- No wheels
- May need a higher-powered motor for some applications
Snow Joe Ash Vacuum Cleaner
Ash Vacuums like the Snow Joe Ash Vacuum are great at helping keep your fireplace clean and tidy, and the model we’ve been looking at in this post is very cheap as well.
Whether you have a tiny wood stove or a large wood-burning cook stove, an ash vac might be just what you’re looking for. You can also likely use your regular wet/dry shop vac for the job, just make sure everything is completely cold before sucking!
