Husqvarna 2100 CD Chainsaw Reviews and Specifications

| | , ,

The 2100 CD was one of Husqvarna’s legendary large-displacement professional saws, widely used for heavy timber felling and long-bar applications through the 1980s.

The 99cc saw was produced 1979 – 1987, with the CD part of the name designating a Capacitor Discharge or electric ignition systemm.

2100 CD reviews

Here’s how the Husqvarna 2100 CD was described in an 1980s ‘Supersaws’ brochure:

Husqvarna’s most powerful professional saw. In spite of its large capacity it is easy to handle on account of a favourable power-to-weight ratio.

  • Engine capacity: 99 cc
  • Weight (empty) with guide bar, chain and chain brake: 8.4 kg

Some of the comments from the above FB post:

  • Tamatea said, “My old man and all my uncles ran 2100 through the 1980s. It’s adversary is the 084.”
  • Clyde said, “First saw that I ever ran. Still have it and I use it every once in a while when I need to cut something big.”
  • Chris said, “Bought one new , and still runs great! Lots of hours on it and I still use it to mill lumber.”
  • Jerry said, “Good saws, vibrated terrible.”
  • Warren said, “David Hunter I was a Stihl man for years until I tried a 2100 with a 3 foot bar and 404 skip tooth; needless to say I was hooked for life.”

Ron said:

The 2100 do made enough power that they did a recall to retune them a bit. No recall done on mine, runs great still!!

Jay said:

That saw was the king of the woods in norcal, redwood country. Everybody had one. I still have mine and it still runs. Since 1982!

Gavin said:

An absolute animal to start, they bite if you’re not fully committed.

Plenty of power and the manual oiler is great for big bars, but they are heavy and the vibration is out of this world, even on an Alaskan mill they will rattle your fillings out of your teeth.

Good luck finding a piston and cylinder kit for one too, so they have to be run rich as hell. A 395 XP leaves these old dungers for dead, there’s not a single thing that the 2100 does better than a 395.
