1959 Vintage Clinton Chainsaw Brochure

| |

In the late 1950s, as chainsaws transitioned from heavy two-man tools to lightweight, one-man machines, Clinton (an American engine manufacturer) launched an aggressive push into the UK market. Distributed by Lambretta Concessionaires Ltd of Croydon, Surrey, this eye-catching green-and-white brochure promoted their “All-Purpose” direct-drive and professional models.

The estimated year of publication for this brochure/catalog is 1959. It features the D50/D55 Handy, D60/D65 Professional, R6061 Selecto-speed, and R6062 Dual-Matic models.

18 trees felled by one man in half an hour . . .

One Man with a Clinton Chainsaw Does the Work of a Gang…

A completely unskilled man, using a Clinton Chainsaw for the first time, felled 18 trees varying between 6 and 9 inches across in half an hour, without effort or fatigue. Normal cutting time for two men with an ordinary saw: at least 2½ back-breaking hours.

That’s an 85% Cut in Labour Cost

Re-examine YOUR labour costs in the light of these facts!

On another occasion, a Clinton D50 Handy Chainsaw cut a 2 ft. 9 in. diameter oak—seasoned for 18 months and having three internal knot sections—in ONLY 1 MINUTE 29 SECONDS.

And this is by no means outstanding by Clinton standards. Such achievements are the rule rather than the exception.

At this rate, a Clinton Chainsaw can pay for itself in a matter of weeks. Skill with a Clinton can be attained quickly, giving even more impressive results.

Perfect Pin-Point Weight Balance

Makes the Clinton Chainsaw effortless to operate in any cutting position, and easily portable.

Cuts at Any Angle

Diaphragm-type carburettor with built-in fuel pump operates perfectly at any angle—on its side or upside down—allowing the saw to be used in any position. No time-wasting angle adjustments.

Fingertip Controls

For easy, safe operation. Fingertip trigger throttle gives smooth, positive acceleration and immediate cutting power without risk of stalling. The saw is stationary when the engine idles.

Full Power

Full power is transferred from the 4 or 6 h.p. engine direct to the saw by the sensational new centrifugal-type, positive-action clutch.

Self-Adjusting Sprag

Engages in timber, allowing the saw to cut through the tree by virtue of its own weight, without pressure from the operator. Straight-line cutting—a feature of Clinton chain sawing—makes parallel slicing simple.
