McCulloch 380 Chainsaw Specifications

| | ,

The McCulloch 380 is a large early-1960s professional-style saw from the period when McCulloch was still producing serious magnesium-bodied American saws in Los Angeles.

It is not a small homeowner machine. With 87 cc, a .404″ chain, and a powerhead weight of over 21 lb, the 380 belongs to the older heavy-duty one-man saw era, before chain brakes, anti-vibration systems, and lightweight plastics became normal.

The saw pictured here was sold on eBay by seller szabsa76 for 350 Euros in April 2026. His listings are always worth a look, as he regularly has interesting and unusual vintage saws for sale.

The listing description said:

McCulloch 380 Veteran Chainsaw In Working Condition

For sale is a classic McCulloch 380 chainsaw.

This model was known in its time for its robust construction and reliability, and today it is mainly of interest as a collector’s item or restoration base. I received it exactly as it is.

The compression is excellent and the engine starts, but it does not idle. Further work is required — a good base for a project.

Included:

– Original engraved guide bar
– 0.404″ pitch, nearly new STIHL chain, completely new clutch drum

No warranty, no returns! There are cracks on the clutch cover and on the underside of the handle.

The standard McCulloch 380 is listed as being introduced in June 1963 and discontinued in May 1964, making it a short-run model.

There was also a related 380A, listed as introduced in March 1963 and discontinued in March 1966, so the 380 family can be a little confusing when looking through old parts lists and collector references.
