The following manual for the Husqvarna 180 S comes from eBay seller ‘PickersParadise1971‘ (original listing here).

Husqvarna 180 S

An entirely new chain saw – With built-in vibration-damping! (Not just in the handles!)

A lot has recently been said about vibration in chain saws. Many attempts have been made to overcome this – for example, by rubber mounting of the handles – but only now is it possible to speak about really effective vibration-damping!

The Husqvarna 180 S is built on the same principle as a car! The engine body, unit with rear handle and arched tubular handle form three separate units. (Like the engine, chassis and body of a car!) These three units are “series-mounted” to each other by means of 10 robust mounting elements made of natural rubber. This means that there’s not much left of any vibration when the saw is running!

A good chain saw must be reliable, convenient to use and easy to service. The Husqvarna 180 S has been developed in collaboration with experienced forestry experts and complies with the requirements of the Swedish Association for Industrial Safety. And it will meet all your demands in a way you have never before experienced!

Husqvarna the engine specialists

The Husqvarna 180 S.

An entirely new power chain saw with built-in vibration-damping!

Much has happened on the chain saw front during recent years. Development has certainly not remained stationary. Progressive improvements have been made to the component parts and the demands made on a chain saw have become increasingly greater.

Husqvarna have been the forerunners in many respects. (Take silencing, for example!) And now we can present the chain saw of tomorrow:
the Husqvarna 180 S!

At first sight it may look like earlier models, but the many detailed improvements have made the 180 S a more reliable and easily operated saw than you have ever used before. However, the really big new feature is the built-in vibration-damping — and we really do mean damping!

Many attempts have previously been made to eliminate vibration on chain saws — for example, by rubber mounting of the handles. However, we do not consider that this alone is sufficient to produce really effective vibration-damping.

This is why we have built the 180 S on the same principle as a car! The engine body, tank unit with rear handle and front arched handle form three separate units (like the engine, chassis and body of a car). These three units are then “series-mounted” to each other by means of 10 robust rubber elements.

Vibration from the engine therefore has to pass through all ten of these rubber elements before reaching the front arched handle — by which time there’s not much vibration left! The rear handle is permanently attached to the tank unit, between which and the engine body there are 6 rubber damping elements, see Figs. 1, 2 and 3.

And even more reliable!

A good chain saw must be reliable, convenient to handle and easy to service! Safety demands have come more and more to the picture and the number of working risks must be reduced as a matter of course. The operational reliability of Husqvarna saws is well known, added to which the 180 S is the most easily used saw you have ever used before!
Every detail was well designed to give the best results with the lowest physical effort.

The Husqvarna 180 S is a saw with more than any before it — in every essential matter we have gone further than has ever been made. (Husqvarna have been the pioneers in many ways as well!) It is important to make the Husqvarna 180 S as possible, which is why we can also say it is easier to service than any saw you have used before!

The Husqvarna 180 S is easy to start in all weather conditions. The carburettor space has been made larger giving improved cooling and better carburetion during idling. The air space between the engine body and the carburettor now prevents the carburettor from overheating by the hot cylinder; see Fig. 4.

The front arched handle has been placed in a more diagonal position over the engine body in order to avoid an unnatural wrist angle in certain working stances. The alteration of the handle’s angle has been made in consultation with the Swedish Association for Industrial Safety; see Fig. 5.

The chain assumes a natural straight movement that handles an important detail of which you will be aware; see Fig. 5.

The distance between the front and rear handles has been increased on the 180 S. This arrangement gives a better grip on the saw in the event of “kick-back.” The resilient suspension also means that any kick-back effect is cushioned.

The chain guide arrangement of a completely new type. It consists of two built-in guide lips, which give an accurate and uniform chain stay, firmly holding the saw chain, ensuring perfect entry to the guide bar and eliminating greater breakage see Fig. 6.

The top casing is made in one piece, which considerably facilitates servicing. It is possible to reach both the cylinder, sparking plug and carburettor by merely removing this. This is a great advantage when cleaning or adjusting. The sparking plug is fully enclosed, thus preventing any “flash-over”; see Fig. 7.
