The STIHL Electronic AV-69 Mystery Chainsaw

| | , ,

I thought I’d heard of all STIHL models by now, but I’m still learning about new saws like this STIHL electronic AV-69.

Here’s what I could find out about it.

There’s a bit of chatter about the model in a few forums and Facebook groups:

User ‘turkeybob’ said on Arborist Site:

Quite rare, I think only supplied to Sweden for a short period before production 041AV, but could be wrong! For sure a collectors piece, as for value?

And in the same thread, ‘ozziechainsaw’ said:

Looks like the 041 Series type saws, but different. I have 3 different types of Stihl 041 saws but none of them look anything like this.

I never seen a chainsaw like this. I didn’t think they were released here in Australia. From the information I can find, it seems to be a rare saw but I could be very wrong, that’s why I am trying to get more information.

On OPE Forum, ‘lehman live edge slab’ said:

Says 60.8 cc so it must basically be an early 041 av electronic.

They call an 041 a 61cc plus if I had that top cover on my early 041 or 040 it would be pretty tough to tell any difference.

He gets those specs from this manual, which doesn’t include a whole lot more information.

The Chainsaw Collector’s forum has many images of the saw.

It’s very unique in that it doesn’t have STIHL 69 on such-like on the top cover or side.

It only has “STIHL electronic AV” on the top.

In another thread on Arborist Site, a user shares picture of the saw, and ‘ozziechainsaw’ states again, “These were never released here in Australia or the US. Apparently only released in Sweden and maybe Belgium.”

In another thread titled ‘Mystery Stihl’ on ChainsawCollectors.com where a member asks what his mystery saw is…

Magnus, the admin, says “This was a Stihl’s importer Warihofs special thing here at the time. This AV-69 and the AV-70 is the most known specials…”

The member replies:

So, did i understand correctly?

This model was only imported to Sweden?

My saw has this label where it says in Finnish: Importer SMK

And there is a copper spiral next to airfilter/carburetor…

To which Magnus responds, “AV-69. I think this was sold to Finland thru Varihof.”

He adds:

I am told this is an Warihof Special. They have no info of AV-69, AV-70 being made in Stihl factory.

This could be wrong of corse, but I believe it to be true.

It is very hard to know these things for sure as there is very little papers to show of it.

So there’s not a lot of info on the saw out there, but I’ll add to this as I find it.
